WCTU stands for Woman's Christian Temperance Union. This group was mostly Christian. The goals of these groups varied; they ranged from helping habitual drunkards, to discouraging the use of alcoholic beverages, to advocating the prohibition of alcoholic beverages.

What did they do?

Members in Fredonia, New York advanced their cause by entering saloons, singing, praying, and urging saloon keepers to stop selling alcohol. They advocated to fix other social flaws such as prostitution, and child labor. The group also focused on suffrage for women.
